At Mayflower Primary School, we have what is known as a Determination from the local Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE). This reflects the community we serve, and also helps to ensure that all children can take part in the progression of assemblies we offer, which are not Christian in nature, and do not incorporate elements of worship. Instead, we look at all world-faiths, and explore content that supports the teaching of our Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural programmes across the school, as well as pupil achievements, festivals, and other important aspects of world history.
The Determination was granted in January 2018, and is due for renewal in January 2023. It will again be our intention to apply for a Determination, and this will be published to parents when and if it is granted.
All staff recognise and celebrate the diversity of our school population, the representation of all faiths, the broad range of cultures within our local community, and the global citizenship mission that our creative, arts-based curriculum promotes.
Assemblies at Mayflower are always joyous occasions, and children are encouraged to actively engage with the content. The Head Teacher and other senior staff lead in these areas, but children also present assemblies of their own, which can build into wonderful, celebratory performances. Most assemblies conclude with a Dojo Challenge, that allow children to engage further with the content, usually outside of school time.
Our staff love to see everyone involved, parents included, and the attached document will give a broad overview of content for the academic year 2022-203:
